CHARLESTON, SC – Senior Wen Liang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) shot a par, 72, and is currently tied for the individual lead after the first round of the Daniel Island Intercollegiate on Sunday.

Xie had three birdies and 13 pars and is tied with Gene Zeigler of South Carolina, Ford Clegg of Mississippi Sate and Pierre Viallaneix of Florida Gulf Coast for the individual lead among 104 golfers.

As a team, the Seton Hall men’s golf team ranks third among 18 schools with a 15-over-par, 303, after 18 holes. Florida Gulf Coast is the team leader at 7 over par, while Mississippi State is in second place at 8 over par. There are no other BIG EAST schools in this talented field.

Junior Wanxi Sun (Danville, California) had 16 pars on his way to a 2-over-par, 74. He is currently tied with eight other golfers for fifth place.

Second year Angus O’Brien (Barwon Heads, Australia) is currently tied for 40e place with a 6-over-par, 78. Only one shot behind O’Brien is a sophomore George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) with a 7 over par, 79.

Completing the Pirates lineup is a freshman Jack Bosworth (Simsbury, Connecticut)who shot a 9-over-par, 81, in the first round.

A trio of Pirates traveled to Daniel Island to compete individually. Second year Joshua Lee (Lantana, TX) is currently tied with O’Brien at 6 over par with a 78. Junior Brody Hanley (Lantana, TX) is tied with Bosworth at 9 over par, while freshman David Lally (Wicklow, Ireland) shot an over-par 19, 91.

FIELD:

In addition to Seton Hall and host Charleston Southern, the field includes 15 other teams including: Campbell, College of Charleston, Florida Gulf Coast, Francis Marion, Houston Baptist, Jacksonville, Louisiana Tech, Loyola (Md.), Memphis, Mercer, Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi State, South Carolina, UAB, USC Upstate and Wofford.

THE FORMAT:

Teams will compete against five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

SCHEDULE:

The course will play 18 holes each day for three days. Tee times will begin at 8:06 a.m. for rounds one and two and there will be a tee shot at 8:30 a.m. for round three. The Pirates will be paired with golfers from Campbell and Loyola, Md. in the first round beginning at 9:54 a.m. from the first tee.
