Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Police Ahmed Nawaz on Friday released a traffic diversion plan for the upcoming International Defense Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2022.
The defense exhibition is to be held at the Karachi Exhibition Center from Tuesday, November 15 to Friday, November 18. In order to spare commuters inconvenience, the traffic police announced the traffic plan as heavy and commercial traffic would not be allowed to use certain roads.
All heavy and commercial traffic coming from Sharea Faisal to Sir Shah Suleman Road will not be permitted to use the stadium flyover. These vehicles will use Karsaz and Drigh Road to get to Rashid Minhas Road and NIPA. The public coming from the airport will use the Drigh Road Flyover to turn towards Rashid Minhas Road and NIPA.
No heavy and commercial traffic on the Rashid Minhas Road will be allowed to proceed to the National Stadium using the Dalmia Road. These vehicles can go to Sharea Faisal, Gulshan to Sohrab Goth.
Heavy and commercial vehicles will not be allowed to go from NIPA to PPP Chowrangi on University Road. These vehicles will travel from NIPA in Gulshan to Sohrab Goth or Safoora, or from Rashid Minhas Road to Sharea Faisal.
Heavy and commercial traffic will not be permitted from PPP Chowrangi to NIPA. These vehicles will use Shahrah-e-Quaideen to reach the Mazar-e-Quaid or Khudadad Flyover to Saddar Dawakhana and Gurumandir.
Heavy and commercial vehicles from streets surrounding University Road will not be permitted onto Stadium Road. These vehicles will be diverted from PPP Chowrangi to Shahrah-e-Quaideen. Also, vehicles will not be permitted from Liaquatabad No10 towards Sir Shah Suleman Road. These vehicles will be diverted to Karimabad and the right side of Dak Khana and Teen Hatti.
According to the traffic plan, University Road and surrounding streets will remain open to regular traffic. However, traffic going from Liaquatabad, Gharibabad and Hassan Square to Sharea Faisal will take University Road then turn around at Baitul Mukarram Mosque to turn left from Jaffri Optics to go towards the back of the stadium, Karsaz or Millennium Mall.
During exhibition hours from 7am to 6pm, both lanes of Sir Shah Suleman Road will remain closed and only vehicles bearing decals will be permitted. Only vehicles with stickers will be allowed from Karsaz Road to the exhibition center and those without stickers will be allowed to turn towards New Town or Dalmia.
Only decaled vehicles will be permitted to park at the Exhibition Center, National Coaches Center and National Stadium. No vehicles could be parked on Sir Shah Suleman Road, Stadium Road towards Hassan Square and University Road.
People living on Sir Shah Suleman Road are advised to use: Sehba Akhtar-Machli Cut University Road to get to NIPA or Baitul Mukarram Mosque U-turn to get to the back of the stadium.
Those going to the Aga Khan Hospital have been advised to go through the back. Likewise, the Civic Center must be approached from behind, traffic police said. In case of inconvenience, people can call the Rahnuma-1915 traffic police hotline, where traffic personnel will be available to guide them.
