Troy University hosted the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) AISA Cheer Camp this week.
UCA and Troy hosted 43 schools – all from AISA – at cheer camp, which saw the team work on their cheerleading skills all week before a big competition on Thursday. UCA staff member Jalen Jones was one of the coaches during the camp and he is also a former Troy University cheerleader.
“It went really well,” Jones said of camp. “The kids learned a lot of material and worked hard throughout the week. They were able to show what they worked on from practice to (competition).
Schools that have sent teams to camp include Abbeville Christian Academy, Springwood High School, Crenshaw Christian Academy, Escambia Academy, Southern Academy, Morgan Academy, Pickens Academy, Chambers Academy, Monroe Academy, Hooper Academy, Edgewood Academy, Fort Dale Academy, Lakeside High School, South Choctaw Academy, Autauga Academy, Lowndes Academy, Lee-Scott Academy, Glenwood High School and many more.
“Their goal for camp is to put together a game day script, which is group chants and side routines, as well as a camp routine, which is a couple of eight dance counts and eight dance counts. ‘a pyramid sequence,’ Jones said. . “From my point of view, it went very well. Many teams have achieved their expectations and what they had planned since the beginning of the camp. Some teams may not have met those expectations, but they were still happy with what they put on the pitch.
