Texas Tech softball outscored Iowa State University 9-1 for the second straight game, winning its second Big 12 series of the season. The Red Raiders also top 0.500 for the first time since March.

In Saturday’s win, Tech scored all nine runs in the second inning on three hits, sending 13 batters home.

Rookie Erna Carlin made her second start of the series, starting Game 1 where Tech lost 10-9. In Game 1, Carlin was pulled into the third inning after allowing four runs on five hits, striking out three.

On Saturday, Carlin pitched the entire five-inning game, allowing two hits and a run. Carlin had a hit before the fourth, but was terminated after a Cyclone tripled to the right.

After allowing a run, Carlin lowers his ERA to 4.18, according to Tech Athletics. She also improves her record to 7-4 this season and leads the team in strikeouts.

In the batting box, the Red Raiders recorded five hits, all by three players. Sophomore Carson Armijo doubled in the first inning to give the Red Raiders the first hit of the game, but would later be blocked. Armijo finished the game 1-2 with an RBI and a hit per pitch.

Sophomore Abbie Orrick recorded both of her hits in Tech’s second inning, coming home twice in the inning. Her first at bat, she singled down the middle and would score later. On her second at bat of the inning, she hit a three-run homer left.

Orrick went 2-2 in the batting box, with one home run and a team three RBI. Orrick’s two hits in the second were two of three hits recorded in the inning.

Junior Riley Ehlen recorded the other two hits, one of which also came in the second inning. Her single down the middle in the second scored two of nine runs in the set, with herself also scoring twice.

Ehlens’ second hit came in the fourth inning when she doubled up, but was then left on base. After his two hits on Saturday, Ehlen is up to .310 this season, which is fourth-best on the team according to Tech Athletics.

The Red Raiders travel to Abilene to face Abilene Christian University on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
