BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) – St. John the Baptist Parish Schools will begin a gradual return to the school community following the impact of Hurricane Ida on the parish.
The tentative plan begins Thursday, September 23 when on-site registration must be announced if contractors declare schools meet safety, environmental and operational standards.
On Monday, September 27, registration begins at a location to be determined from 9 am to noon and again from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm Registration takes place Monday through Thursday.
Wearing a mask is mandatory, however, there is an option for online registration.
Cabinet members, principals and school administrators are scheduled to report for work on Monday, September 27. Teachers and staff will report to schools on Wednesday October 6.
Students will tentatively return to school on October 11 with three learning options.
The first option includes platoon and hybrid schedules.
The second option is virtual learning for evacuated families, but the return to in-person learning will depend on the time intervals.
The third option is virtual learning for Monroe students.
For high school football players, the first scheduled training day will be Monday, September 20. The players missed the first two weeks of the season, but the target dates for the first high school football games are Friday, September 24 or Saturday, September 25.
Other high school sports will be announced on Wednesday, September 22. Communication is underway with other districts on programs and start dates.
St. John the Baptist Parish Schools will work with parents concerned about district uniform policy.
