Spring Woods High School celebrated the signing of six senior student-athletes to play varsity athletics.

The six student-athletes were recognized and celebrated in a brief ceremony at the Spring Woods High library on the afternoon of May 4.

Among the student-athletes whose signings were celebrated were four footballers:

Isaiah McKnight and Anthony Rodriguez, who signed with East Texas Baptist University

Cy Cripps and Alijah Hall, who signed with Texas Lutheran University

“This means a lot to Spring Woods High School because it means they are going to get an education and be able to play the sports they love in college,” said campus athletic director and football coach SWHS. , Keith Cripps, about the ceremony.

Francisco Cruz signed to play football at Huston-Tillotson University.

Spring Woods boys football coach Wadey Yaya said the signing ceremonies were some of his favorite moments as a coach.

“I see these young men who four years ago were little boys coming out of middle school, trying to figure things out, trying to figure out high school,” he said. “Then, four years later, once they kind of figured it out, they’re now taking the next step and the next chapter in their lives.”

Abigail Davila has signed to play football at Angelina College.

“Abby is someone I’ve known personally since she was in fifth grade,” said Spring Woods women’s soccer coach Sarah Pollicove-Yaya. “I always knew that football was a love for her, a big thing for her. So the fact that she can use football as a way to pursue her college career is something good for her, but it’s is also good for our program because it is very important for girls to see that playing football is a way to help you get that education that they have been trying to get.
