OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City University tied Mid-America Christian University for the highest-ranked team in the SAC rankings and the No. 2-ranked team in the NAIA coaches’ poll. With the tie, OCU is now 10-4-1, 6-2 this season and fourth in the SAC standings with two games remaining. The last time the Stars tied a ranked team was on 3/16/21 against MACU with a final score of 1-1.

Zero shots in the first half and an insufficient score did not hinder the Stars who came back with a goal in the 49th minute from a corner of Jordan DaCosta who was heading under the arms of the guards by Ignacio Sarasol, Sarasol’s goal was his first of the year. The assistance of Gustave Cardoso was his fourth. Once the second half started, the Stars would face another deficit as MACU scored in the 54th minute from 12 yards out. Lucas de Freitas It was the Star who equalized in the 64th minute after taking advantage of a poor play by the Evangels. He stole the errant pass and was alone for the breakaway goal from 24 yards out. The goal was his ninth of the season. Jordan DaCosta came within feet of a game-winning goal with less than 20 minutes to play as he took control of the loose ball and fired it just past midfield as the goalkeeper had moved away from his line. The ball sailed over the goal by just a few yards. The Stars also had another header taken on an offside penalty shortly after their equalizer.

Danilo Vilani kept the Stars in the game with a superb performance in both periods as he racked up 9 saves in total, including four in the first period and five in the second period. MACU only had two saves on the game, giving credit to their ball control and giving credit to the Stars’ defensive prowess. Overall, the Stars finished with 10 shots, four shots on goal and nine saves. The Evangels finished with 26 shots, eleven shots on goal and two saves. De Freitas led the Stars with three shots.

OCU will play its last away game as it travels to Goodwell, Okla., to face Panhandle State on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
