Janice White Atkinson, 72, of Chattanooga died July 19, 2022.

She was a graduate of the Central High School Class of 1967. Janice has devoted her entire adult life to public service as a police officer. She retired from the Chattanooga Police Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, and Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office. She was very proud of her years of service. She rose to the rank of Sergeant while employed at the CPD and she served as a Public Information Officer at the HCSD. While in the prosecutor’s office, she served as an investigator. Janice was a member of Mile Straight Baptist Church in Soddy Daisy. She was also a former member of the Lions Club. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents John and Lorene White, and a brother Jerry White.

Left behind to cherish Janice’s memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Randolph-Taylor and Joe Taylor, her grandchildren Maddie and Mason Randolph, her brothers Tommy (Diane) White and David White, several nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins ​​and several lifelong friends.

A celebration of Janice’s life will be held in the East Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home at 2 p.m. at Lakewood West Memory Gardens Cemetery in Lookout Valley on Monday, July 25, 2022 with Darryl Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at the East Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home before the service on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Janice’s memory are requested to be made to the Hospice of Chattanooga or the American Heart Association.
