Shreveport- The Centenary men’s basketball team returns home Wednesday as the Gentiles take on the Louisiana Christian University Wildcats in a non-conference contest scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Gold Dome.

The Gents (1-1) lost to the East Texas Baptist University Tigers in a non-conference contest, 95-76, on Saturday in Marshall, Texas, after opening the season with a dominating 101 victory -64 over the Arlington Baptist University Patriots at home on Nov. 8. Louisiana Christian (2-2) fell 86-73 to Texas-Tyler in an exhibition game on Monday, but enters Wednesday’s action winning back-to-back regular season games — 53-43 to William Carey and 84 – 62 against Millsaps College.

Senior F Seth Thomas (Kilgore, Texas) was named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday for games played Tuesday, Nov. 8 through Sunday, Nov. 13. Thomas is averaging 19.0 points per game while shooting. a sizzle of 76.2% from the ground this season. He is also averaging 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 83.3% from the free throw line and 50.0% from outside the arc.

Thomas scored 14 points in 26 minutes against ETBU and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. He was a perfect 5-5 from the floor and 4-5 from the free throw line with three assists and a blocked shot. Freshman G Quentin Beverly (Katy, Texas) led the Gents with a season-high 15 points, hitting double numbers for the second time this season after scoring 12 against Crosstown foe LSU -Shreveport on Nov. 1 in a non-conference exhibition contest. Beverly shot 6-9 overall in 26 minutes, 3-6 from the free throw line and had three assists, three rebounds and three steals.

Both teams shot the ball well as Centenary went 46.3% (25-54) from the ground for the game while ETBU finished 52.2% (36-69). The Tigers finished with a slight advantage (39-35) on the rebound and saw five players finish in double figures while three Gents did. Centennial finished with 11 steals, 10 assists and three blocked shots.

Senior G Tykeem Singleton (Fort Worth, TX) came off the bench and scored 10 points in just 13 minutes while 3-7 from the floor with one assist and one rebound. Senior G Jalen Behr (Athens, Ga.) added eight points in eight minutes on 3-5 total shots and 2-4 attempts from beyond the arc. Junior G Jerrick Baines (Alexandria, La.) scored six points in 28 minutes 4-6 from the free throw line and had three rebounds, three steals and an assist.

Senior F Joseph Wiggins (Bossier City, La.) scored five points with four rebounds and a steal in 15 minutes on 2-3 on total shooting and went 1-1 from the line. Junior G Chrys Jackson (North Las Vegas, Nev.) and senior G/F Willie Davis (Bronx, N.Y.) each scored four and Junior G Braeden Board (Rayne, La.) and rookie G Cameron Walker (Bossier City, La. ) each scored three points. Senior F Xavier Johnson (Baker, La.) and Senior G Kile Mingo (Cypress, Texas) each added two points.

Centenary comes into Wednesday’s game having won 10 of their last 13 home games and Maroon and White are an impressive 25-6 in their last 31 home games dating back to the 2019-20 season. With the 101 points in their win over Arlington Baptist in the home opener, Centenary scored 100 points for the first time since blasting Southwestern 105-69 in January last season. The Gents surpassed 100 points in a game for the third time under head coach Chris Dorsey.

The series between the Gents and the Wildcats dates back to 1922 and is one of the oldest rivalries in Centenary program history. Centenary holds a decisive 34-14 advantage in the series, but the Wildcats have won two of the last three games, including a 62-46 win at Pineville last season.
