Katharine Stone (Kitsie) Hubans
August 1, 1942 – December 7, 2021
Fort Worth, Texas – Kitsie Hubans, née Katharine Stone Waltman Jr., 79, returned to her heavenly home on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-great-grandmother -mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin who cherished loved ones and walked in the faith as a born again Christian.
Kitsie was born in Fort Worth on August 1, 1942 to William DeWitt Waltman, Jr. and Katharine (Stone) Waltman. After graduating from the Hockaday School of Dallas in 1960, she attended Texas Christian University to study musical theater. Charismatic, spirited, beautiful and vocal, Kitsie was born for the stage, performing in dozens of musical programs at Casa Manana, Granbury Opera House and beyond.
In 1994, Kitsie met and fell in love with Frank Hubans. They married and remained inseparable, and he has been a dedicated husband and caregiver. In his later years, his advice to friends and family was, “Follow Jesus, trust your instincts, love and care for others, find and celebrate beauty in all things, don’t be afraid to ask help, and for heaven’s sake, don’t smoke! ”
Kitsie was outgoing and befriended everyone she met. She just had a magical way to make others feel special and beautiful by sharing a sweet thought or a compliment. She was warm, nurturing, and very much in touch with the natural world and with others. With an incredible green thumb, she could revive any plant. People and animals have always found their way to her for healing – body and soul. His family joked that there was a special underground railroad for cats, possums, squirrels, owls, birds, and all kinds of creatures that lead right to his door. She had a remarkable way of seeing living things first-hand and knowing what they needed and her unbeatable hugs were a cure for the heart.
Kitsie was a member of the Coven, the Jewel Charity Ball, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her beloved husband Frank Hubans, her sister, Jan Waltman Odom, her children, Bob Lilly, Jr., Michelle Miller, Christienne Martin, her stepson, Christopher Hubans, cousin, Harriet Willis, and the father of his children, Robert Lilly and ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Kitsie was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Katy Waltman, her brother, Bill Waltman III, and her beloved granddaughter, Carmen Lilly.
A celebration of Kitsie’s life will be held on Tuesday, December 14 at Thompson’s Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. A tour will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m., chaired by Reverend Lynn Waltman. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park.
Memorials: In remembrance of Kitsie’s life and love for animals, the family requests that all charitable donations be made to the Humane Society of North Texas.
