David Alvin Tharp was born September 8, 1949 in Bainbridge, Georgia, the son of Thomas A. and Adell Barber Tharp. He graduated from Bainbridge High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. David retired from Steward Machine and was a member of West Bainbridge Baptist Church.

Driving by David’s house revealed two of his favorite activities: fishing – the boat was usually hooked up to the truck – and gardening – his flowers were always on display. He enjoyed mud and woodworking when he wasn’t working. David rarely walked past a garage sale without stopping. In his mind, “one man’s trash was another man’s treasure”.

Survivors include his children, Cheryl & Chas Harrell and Jeff Tharp, all of Bainbridge; his grandchildren, Carson, Megan and Grayson; and his siblings, Mike Tharp of Alabama and Mary Blair of Bainbridge. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his brother, Benny Tharp, and his grandchildren, Tyler & Talor.

The Bryant Funeral Home, located at 105 N. Florida Street, is helping the family make arrangements. (229-246-3321)
