Captain Seth Johnson moved from the pulpit ministry, where he served 20 years, to the Connecticut Air National Guard chaplain. It’s such a big change in his career, right? Seth sees the same appeal in it, just a change of uniform.

Seth, a Cedarville alumnus in 1996, joined the Connecticut Air National Guard where his brother-in-law and a son served. Another son is a medic in the US military. Due to his academic and ministerial experience, he was directly appointed captain.

This stint in the army was a return to Seth’s roots. His life of ministry began as a young pastor in a church in Beavercreek, Ohio, near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The unique tensions and challenges of military life were part of his early ministry experiences.

As an Air National Guard chaplain, Seth is a trusted relief valve for Airmen and commanders. Serving in the church has prepared him well to be that calm and equal presence for those who face difficulties and trials. In custody, it is available to everyone on the base, regardless of their religious beliefs.

“The Bible says to be ready in season and out of season, always ready to give an answer to the hope that is in you,” Seth told Cedarville Public Relations earlier this year. “It’s kind of bearing the fruit of the instructions of the Scriptures.”
