We are delighted to announce the addition of three editors to The Post’s SEO team: Candace Mitchell, Gwen Milder and Ashleigh Wilson. These SEO editors will work to create strategies to reach and retain new, younger, more diverse audiences through search platforms and develop newsroom best practices around SEO, recirculation, and sustainable content.

They join Jai-Leen James, Matt Clough and Maite Fernandez on the Newsroom’s core SEO team, formerly known as Operations, to expand our optimization efforts and predict short-term and short-term trends. long-term. This group, which includes global audience editors Sofia Diogo Mateus and Grace Moon and service journalism editor Megan Griffith-Greene, will form a realigned SEO team that will focus on strategically growing and driving search audiences to The Post. They will continue to work closely with editors and reporters across the newsroom and with the product team to develop tactics and tools to reach this key audience.

As Senior SEO Writer, Candace will lead our search audience acquisition strategy. She will partner with teams across the company to understand our search audiences and identify content creation opportunities to turn them into repeat visitors and loyal subscribers.

Candace joins us from Gannett, where she led the digital production team at and Record for several years before becoming director of digital subscription strategy for the Atlantic region. In this role, she trained and worked with over 30 newsrooms to help increase digital subscriptions. She also led a team of reporters who covered a variety of topics, including local news and transportation in the New York metropolitan area, a role to which she brought her experience as a data-driven thinker and audience-focused to edit and assign stories.

Originally from New Jersey, she holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and literature from Ramapo College in New Jersey. In her spare time, Candace enjoys reading and talking about the Philadelphia Eagles.

His first day will be August 29.

As Senior SEO Writer, Gwen will guide our SEO strategy around sustainable content and partner with our on-duty journalism editor, newsroom reporting teams and product to develop and maintain content to evergreen leaves.

Gwen comes to us from the Motley Fool, where she served as an SEO content strategist focusing on evergreen content. She has spent her career understanding search users and has a deep understanding of SEO strategy, tactics, and technical expertise. At The Motley Fool, his team overhauled the website’s sustainable content information architecture and created a catalog of investment and retirement guides to establish The Motley Fool as an authority on these topics with readers and search engine.

Previously, she was a digital producer at AARP and travel editor at US News & World Report. She received her master’s degree in journalism from Georgetown and her bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Gwen, originally from North Carolina, enjoys traveling, cooking and decorating for Christmas sooner than some find acceptable. Gwen lives in Takoma Park, Maryland, with her husband, Max; a tuxedo cat, Barry; and a pit-boxer mix, Roxie.

His first day will be September 6.

Ashleigh joins the team as SEO Writer after serving as Audience Engagement Producer at the Houston Chronicle, where she led daytime homepage programming; tracking audience data and trends; and enhanced content and projects, including a report on how Southern Baptist leaders have routinely silenced survivors of sexual abuse. She was also the associate editor of HouWeAre, a newsletter about identity, race, and culture in one of America’s most diverse cities.

Previously, Ashleigh was a web producer and Alexa briefing host at Newsday, a homepage producer at the Arizona Republic, and a digital producer in New York.

Ashleigh is from Northern Virginia and she is beyond excited to return to the area. (Fun fact: The Washington Post was the very first newspaper Ashleigh read, grabbing KidsPost while her dad was reading the Sunday edition.)

She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication from North Carolina A&T State University and is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Ashleigh has a sweet tooth, which pairs perfectly with her hobby of baking and hunting for the best local dessert shops. She has a 14-year-old sister, who aspires to be a pastry chef, and a 19-year-old brother, who is a private pilot at Middle Tennessee State University.
