Teacher Welcome Reception
The Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce and Decatur Morgan Hospital hosted the annual Teacher Welcome Reception on Wednesday, August 3 at Hartselle High School. 500 teachers and staff received Chick-Fil-A cookies, provided by Hartselle’s First Baptist Church, Warehouse coffee, as well as gifts from many area businesses. A welcome was given by Missy Evans (HACC President/CEO), Noel Lovelace (Decatur Morgan Vice President of Development/Foundation Chairman) and Wendy Lang (Alabama Education Association), while Larry Franks of First Priority Decatur Alabama gave a prayer of blessing during the year.
Gold sponsors for the event included Gilchrist Pharmacy, Inc., Redstone Federal Credit Unionand WCU Credit Unionand the welcome godfather was People’s Bank of Alabama. Seven gifts were donated thanks to our Friends of Education sponsors, Corum Building and Farm Center, Hannah Lawn and Landscape Service, Inc., Hartselle Rotary Club, Hulse Family Chiropractic, Inspired design and graphics, JMK Martial Arts and Fitnessand Mack’s painting and body.
Fill the bus
Thank you, Hartselle, for “filling the bus” this year! Thanks to your generous donations, a record amount of supplies were collected from four buses in the Hartselle area and sent to the Central Schools Office in the Town of Hartselle for distribution to children in need.

July 16ehundreds gathered for the 4e Annual Serve Day, a national community service awareness day originating from the Church of the Highlands in Birmingham. Volunteers from 15 local churches and organizations met outside the train depot for breakfast and a pep rally, then dispersed to more than a dozen different service projects throughout the region. Pep rally attendees heard from YouTube sensation Destin Sandlin, who started the ceremony with an inspirational message. Sandlin’s speech was followed by comments from Councilman Hartselle Virginia Alexander, County Commissioner Randy Vest, Representative Scott Stadthagen, Representative Parker Moore and Senator Arthur Orr. A flag ceremony was performed by Troop 336 of the Hartselle Boy Scouts of America, and recent Wallace State graduate Hannah Watson performed the national anthem. The ceremony ended with a prayer by Walter Blackman, pastor of the East Highland Baptist Church.Subsequently, projects have been carried out in local schools, recovery centers, food pantries and private homes.
