The back-to-school celebration is back, but in a new place.

Instead of the public plaza where the event has been held for several years, this year’s Back-To-School Bash for free school supplies will take place on Tuesday, August 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. inside the Smithville First Center Life Enrichment Baptist Church, 101 West Church Street, Smithville.

Smithville FBC Pastor Chad Ramsey encourages all parents and children in DeKalb County to participate for free school supplies and fun activities. There will also be free food and drink for all attendees.

“It is still called the Back to School Education Celebration, but instead of being in the public square, we will have it at the Smithville First Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center (Gym), which means it rain or shine, we will have the celebration of education from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. All children and parents are welcome to pick up school supplies free of charge. This is for those in kindergarten and kindergarten through 12th grade. This event is for our community and we will distribute as much as we have until we run out. There will be free food and more. We hope you get out,” Ramsey said.

The Smithville-DeKalb County Chamber will award prizes for the best decorated “Back to School” booth.
