Juneteenth/Block Party is June 20

The First Missionary Baptist Church, located at the corner of Seventh and Vienna streets in Metropolis, will hold its first Juneteenth/Block Party/Community Health Fair celebration from noon to 4 p.m. on Monday, June 20, at its Family Life Center. There will be music, bingo, cake walk, games, prizes, food and drink. Nursing staff at Massac Memorial Hospital will be available for two-hour services including blood pressure, heart rate, pulse oximetry (checking oxygen levels), vision screening tests and COVID-19 vaccines for all ages, including boosters (Pfizer/Moderna/Johnson & Johnson). Hope Unlimited will also be on hand. All are welcome.

First Missionary Baptist Church hosting VBS

The First Missionary Baptist Church, located at the corner of Seventh and Vienna streets in Metropolis, will be hosting a Vacation Bible School Tuesday through Friday, June 21-24, 5:45-8 p.m. The theme is “Claim Your Crown”. Dr. Orlando McReynolds is the pastor. All are welcome.

CSC hosts the annual ELITE camp

Shawnee Community College in Ullin is the site of the 14th annual ELITE (Educate, Lead, and Inspire Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs) Camp for Young Entrepreneurs for students in grades seven through nine Monday through Thursday, July 18-21. Students gain insight into the drive, creativity, innovation, discipline, vision, and dedication needed to start their own business. ELITE Camp is coordinated by Shawnee Community College, Southernmost Illinois Delta Empowerment Zone and University of Illinois Extension. The $10 fee is due upon submission of the application. Lawyer at the Library coming to Metropolis

The Lawyer at the Library program will be offered at the Metropolis Public Library, 317 Metropolis Street, from 3 to 5 p.m. on Mondays, June 20, July 11 and July 25. There are no fees. Pre-registration is required. Entrants must reside in Alexander, Jackson, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Pulaski, Saline, Union, or Williamson counties, and must bring all documents related to their legal case, if applicable. Dates for Southern Seven’s WOW Health Screenings Set

The Southern Seven Health Department, in partnership with the Illinois Department of Public Health, will be hosting Wellness on Wheels health screening events on Wednesday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Happy Hearts Senior Center, 711 Market St., Metropolis; Wednesday, June 15, 1:30-4 p.m. in front of Brookport City Hall; Saturday June 18, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Marché Paysan on the Place de Vienne; Wednesday June 29, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Village of Olmsted; Wednesday, June 29, 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Caledonia Community Church in Olmsted; Wednesday, July 13, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Métropolis Fire Department; and Wednesday, July 13, from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in front of Big John Grocery. Amateur radio operators gather for breakfast

The Massac County Amateur Emergency Service, part of the Massac County Amateur Radio Club, holds its weekly breakfast meetings at 10 a.m. Saturdays at Yesterday’s, 310 W. 10th St., Metropolis. The next meeting is Saturday, June 18. Tests are also available on Saturday mornings. The caregiver support group meets on Tuesday

The Season of Honor: Caring for the Caregiver Support Group for those caring for a loved one will meet on Tuesday, June 14 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Baptist Health Paducah in Classroom A, located between the buildings from Doctors 1 and 2. The MCDAC will meet on Wednesday

The Massac County Drug Awareness Coalition meets the third Wednesday of each month at 8 a.m. in person at the Metropolis City Hall council chambers and also via Zoom. Meetings are open to the public. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, June 15. MCDAC is a group of volunteers committed to providing leadership, education and resources to build and support communities of informed citizens who make healthy and safe choices by reducing substance abuse. At the river organizing a summer neighborhood party on June 27

At the River Ministries will host a Block Party Community Dinner at 5 p.m. on Monday, June 27 at Dorothy Miller Park in Metropolis. There will be bouncy houses, face painting and more. Grace Church Food Pantry open June 25

Grace Church, 102 E. 20th St., Metropolis, opened a pantry to the public. The pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every other Saturday. The next date is June 25. Everyone is welcome.

Tanglefoot Ranch Karaoke is Saturday

Tanglefoot Ranch, located in the community of Flatwoods, one mile north of Grantsburg, will hold its karaoke event on Saturday, June 18 starting at 6 p.m. A ham and bean dinner, music and karaoke will be featured. Baptist Health Paducah Offering Safe Sitter Courses

Baptist Health Paducah offers Safe Sitter babysitting classes for boys and girls in grades six through eight. The one-day courses will take place at the hospital: from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday June 23 and Friday July 8; and from noon to 4 p.m. on Monday, July 18.
