Kohima, October 8 (EMN): New Market FC defeated Patkai Christian College 8-1 in the 22nd NSF Martyr’s Memorial Trophy held with the theme “Aim for Peace” by Angami Students Union (ASU), at IG Stadium in Saturday Kohima.

Starting their campaign with a bang, New Market, a favorite home side of Kohima, opened the floodgates through Yhunshalo Kemp in the 36th and 42nd followed by Rhitsho Mero’s strike in the 45th, 57th and 69th minutes respectively on matchday two of the editing.

Rhitsho, who became the tournament’s first hattrick scorer, was later named player of the match.

New Market continued to increase their tally with a brace from Gideon and a goal from Neisede Peseyie in the dying minutes of the second game.

The consolation goal for Chumoukedima’s Patkai Christian College came through the boots of Eneibi Thopi in the 82nd minute.

Earlier, in the first game of the day, Vafümai Gaziphema FC narrowly beat Phusachodu Warriors FC 3-2.

Okho Christian opened the account for Gaziphema in the 19th minute to take the lead.

However, the Warriors restored parity and leveled the score through Zhoveto Chuzho in the 27th minute in the tightly contested match.

In the counterattack, Gaziphema found the net again through Chinakho in the 31st minute to end the first half with a 2-1 lead over the Warriors.

A determined Gaziphema continued to progress finding their third goal inside Ngachano’s boots in the 57th minute.

The Warriors fought back fiercely and managed to score through Vekusa in the 79th minute. However, the team lost to Gaziphema with a goal deficit at the end of the match.

Gaziphema’s Chinakho was named Player of the Match.

So far, a total of 15 goals have been scored and three yellow cards have been given.

A total of 35 teams are vying for the coveted title.
